How to Care for Skin from the Inside Out

Human skin needs a lot of care like Angelina Jolie's (above). While it may appear that skin only needs care from the outside - like washing with a good antibacterial soap, cleansing it with toners, and softening it with lotions and creams - skin care should really be more about giving our skin, whether it be on our body or face, the proper nutrients it needs to replenish new cells and repair damage as a result of environmental factors like free radicals.

While it's true that many skin potions do help if applied regularly - there are anti acne creams that are extremely helpful for those suffering from pimples - it must not be forgotten that skin has it's own internal defense system which it uses to protect itself from microbes and other external elements that damage it and cause it to deteriorate. The best way to boost these natural systems is to take vitamins and minerals, especially those that have antioxidant properties.

Antioxidants like Vitamin C and E are perhaps the best known to help skin look younger and healthier. These are available from fruits and vegetables. But these are not the only ones that are beneficial to the skin. New findings show that grape seed extract can promote wound healing, encourage the creation of new blood vessels, and ease abnormal skin cell growth. These have been proven in laboratory tests that show how the extract from grape seeds are useful as a topical agent. If taken internally, like the USANA Proflavanol grape seed extract Optimizer, it works as a powerful antioxidant in the body.

Home Remedy For Wrinkles--Is This The Best Answer?

by Emily Rae

Ever tried a home remedy for wrinkles? If you have, you are hardly alone. For centuries people have turned to all sorts of methods to fight the signs of aging. But you might want to think twice before doing it again. As much as some people might swear by their do it yourself methods, the simple fact is that they are not that effective.
While many home remedies contain the same ingredients as packaged organic products, these natural wrinkle fighters aren't nearly as effective when used on their own. It is only in carefully constructed combinations that natural, plant based ingredients do their best work. A homemade wrinkle smoother might have limited positive results, but in the long run it will fall short of providing real help.
In our desperate search for a way to diminish the appearance of wrinkles, many of us have turned to everything from crushed grapes to castor oil for help. A home remedy for wrinkles can be based on just about any individual ingredient or even a combination of ingredients, but without a clear understanding of how each ingredient works and how they work together, it is nearly impossible for us to create effective wrinkle treatments at home.
While some ingredients are said to prevent wrinkles, others are used to address wrinkles which already exist. A homemade wrinkle smoother made from pineapple or apple juice is supposed to lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and leave the skin softer. But this kind of remedy is sketchy at best. Whatever results are achieved are likely to be only temporary.
Though a home remedy for wrinkles is not considered the most effective approach, many of the ingredients used in those concoctions, from lavender and chamomile, to tea tree and grapeseed oil, to witch hazel and aloe are being tapped by the skin care industry and included in a new range of botanical skin care products.
By combining these and other organic ingredients in carefully balanced amounts, scientists in the skin care industry have developed products which can allow the user to tap into the healing properties of nature in a much more effective manner. Stepping well beyond any homemade wrinkle smoother, these products address skin problems at their core for deep healing never before believed possible.
Since plant based ingredients contain a vast array of healing compounds including antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, oils, tannins and alkaloids, they can provide the most complete healing for skin problems, but only when used properly. Unlike a home remedy for wrinkles, these botanical products can work to restore elasticity, promote collagen growth, remove toxins from the body and improve over all skin tone.
We all want to look and feel younger, but do it yourself is not always the best route to take. You can't be too careful when it comes to your skin, so it is best to rely on natural products created by skin care professionals. Take the cautious approach and use organic skin care products and you'll truly be able to get the best of what nature has to offer.

Shea Butter - An Answer To More Than Just Dry Skin

by Terry Christensen

Natural Plant Extract: Beneficial to Skin, Hair, Muscles
Shea butter, sometimes called shea nut butter, is a natural plant extract from the shea tree. Shea butter is used extensively in cosmetics and moisturizers as an emollient to soften and soothe the skin. Shea butter is beneficial to the skin, and is a natural ingredient that is also edible, being used as a cooking oil and also as a cocoa butter substitute in chocolate. The shea tree does not produce its large, plum-like, fruit until it is at least twenty years old.
Another use of shea butter is in hair conditioners, as its moisturizing properties helps to maintain moisture in the hair and keep in healthy and revitalized. It has been shown to be even more effective that cocoa butter or jojoba butter in treating dry, damaged hair.
Also Helpful for Scars and Skin Conditions
Besides being an excellent moisturizer and emollient, shea butter is also naturally anti-inflammatory. Shea butter has been successfully used for many conditions:
-fading scars and stretch marks -treating eczema skin symptoms, burns, rashes, acne, psoriasis -lessening blemishes, wrinkles
It absorbs rapidly into the skin, and has also been known to effectively relieve sinusitis and nasal congestion. The softening properties helps to relax the skin and thereby ease tension and increase respiration. The use of shea butter can also be effective in lessening the pain of sore muscles and arthritis.
How We Get Shea Butter
To obtain shea butter the shea nut is cracked and roasted, and then ground into a paste. Water is added to the cooled paste, and then mixed until the shea oil comes to the top and can be collected. The oil is boiled until the water evaporates. It is them filtered until it becomes a creamy yellow color.
In some places in Africa, where the shea tree grows, newborn babies are massaged daily with the rich, natural shea butter massage oil, which stretches their muscles and softens their skin.

Remove Plantar Warts Quickly

by Gerald Stidham

Plantar warts are very uncomfortable, but you do have options. You may need to see your doctor for a correct diagnosis, but you do have options to remove them on your own, naturally and effectively.
Plantar warts are warts that appear on your foot. They are caused by a virus called human papilloma virus, aka HPV. Plantar warts are usually harmless skin growths, but of course it is always best to seek the advise of your doctor to make sure they are benign. Plantar warts can appear in clusters and are usually extremely uncomfortable, because of the pressure applied to them from walking.
Most peoples main reason for wanting to get rid of them, is they can be very painful and can affect your day to day activities. The warts appear on the sole of your foot and doing something as simple as walking can be a very painful undertaking. This can be especially a problem for you if you work on your feet all day. It is also very important to remove plantar warts because they have the potential to be contagious. The virus can easily transfer between people. You can catch them from direct or indirect contact, it may not always happen this way but it can. Some people are more susceptible to the HPV virus than others, and you may pass the virus to people you don't know or worse yet to people you love and care about without even knowing it. Plantar warts grow inward because of the pressure applied to them while you walk, so you may not even notice that you may already have them and you could be spreading the virus without even knowing it
Another reason you want to get rid of them is that plantar warts are noticeable. I'm not talking about someone else noticing them (you'll have to have your shoes and socks off with your bare feet up on the coffee table for anyone to notice). However, I am implying you will notice them. Plantar warts can grow in size and they also grow in clusters with small warts surrounding a huge wart. Unless you're a foot model you'll most likely you won't notice what they look like on your foot. However, you will notice them with every step you take.
The good news is you have plantar warts treatment options available to you. Your primary physician can help you with removing the warts. However, if you are concerned with costs, you can treat the plantar warts effectively on your own. You can purchase over the counter wart removal products or try a home remedy to remove them. Over the counter products will work but they are evasive on your skin and may attack the HPV virus effectively. However, there are home remedies that do get rid of the wart and help attack the virus.
There are a number of home remedies available for naturally removing them and some of them require the use of ingredients that you have in your home all ready. Also using a natural method to remove the warts will not harm your skin and may not cause scarring. Finally, most home remedies are more comfortable to apply than the over the counter methods.
While it's your decision to remove the plantar warts, using a natural method will help you get rid of the warts a little easier. Also, since they are so uncomfortable or can be downright painful, making the decision and effort to get rid of plantar warts should be a no brainer.

Do You Know How To Have Beautiful Skin?

by John Russel

The older you are, the more important it is to get started with a quality skin care regimen right away. Here is three things you can do to make your skin start looking beautiful today.
Use these 3 Simple Steps Everyday
1. Cleanse Daily - but gently. Too many professional skin care products strip your facial skin of the natural elements it needs to keep your skin soft and supple. Using a mild cleanser with a very light, delicate scent that won't leave your face feeling tight and dry after washing is a basic way to leave you glowing all day.
2. Exfoliate Your Face Daily - Many exfoliating products can be too harsh to use daily, but there are many excellent products that give you gentle exfoliating for your face that can be used daily. There are some great natural skin care products that are used at night before bed, which not only exfoliate the grime and pollution of the day from your delicate facial skin, they also moisturize, soften, and supplement your body's collagen and antioxidant production.
3. Moisturize Daily - Use a dry skin care anti aging lotion each morning after cleansing. Excellent high quality moisturizers not only replace vital moisture in your face that leaves it feeling very soft and smooth, but it will also supplement the antioxidants your skin needs to stay looking healthy and young. If you use an SPF of 25, it will also help protect your face from sun damage throughout the day. This moisturizer goes on with a wonderfully light feeling, and you'll actually start seeing results from it within minutes.
More facial skin care tips on how to have beautiful skin
Most cleansers, makeup, and other beauty products are full of harsh synthetic chemicals that may be harmful to skin. Natural solutions for healthy skin care are better for you, support a cleaner environment and natural techniques work at least as well.
Essential oils are some of nature's best helpers in almost every aspect of health. Many times more potent than dried herbs, essential oils contain all the healing properties of a plant in a very concentrated form. For this reason, they are best used in tiny amounts and are often diluted for skin care.
Sea salt is the world's most mineral-rich exfoliant. The minerals in sea water are known to nourish and heal skin. The same minerals can be found in unprocessed, mineral-rich sea salt, and the coarseness of salt makes it a perfect exfoliant. Try the following whole-body sea salt scrub.
- 1 Cup Sea Salt
- 2 Tablespoons Apricot or Almond Oil
- 5-6 Drops Peppermint Essential Oil
1. Put salt in a bowl and add the oils.
2. Mix well.
3. Store in covered container until ready to use.
This recipe is best used in the shower after washing. Rub a small handful of the salt scrub all over your body in brisk circular motions. Afterwards, use a moisturizing anti aging skin care product.
Fatty oils restore skin's moisture and flexibility. Part of the benefit of the salt scrub recipe is the apricot or almond oil it contains, which leaves a nice glow and moisture in the skin.
Using an oil cleansing method, surprisingly, is a simple and effective way to clean your face. Using olive oil, castor oil, and hot water leaves a lasting glow. Fatty vegetable oils can be used as moisturizers, makeup remover, cleansers if you want to stay all natural.
Do you know how to have beautiful skin?
In summary it's not enough to get a facial to keep your skin clear and beautiful. You need to have a great home skin-care routine.
1. Get a professional facial to deep cleanse your skin at least four times a year, as the seasons change. Every 4-6 weeks is ideal.
2. Throw away the soap and use quality skin care products that are right for your skin type.
3. Wear sunscreen, even on cloudy days and in the winter. Use a good quality, high-SPF sunscreen. Sun damage is the single most important cause of premature aging.
4. Cut out skin-damaging habits like smoking, excessive drinking, and tanning booths.

Have You Tried Any Natural Cures for Acne?

by M. Applebaum

One of the main reasons why people turn to natural cures for acne is that there is a less chance for any side effects. Before choosing one of these particular products, consult with your doctor. Many of the pharmaceutical products meant to cure acne contain harsh chemicals that can be harmful to your skin.

Acne is a skin condition that usually affects teenagers or adolescents. It is caused by an increased production of the hormone, testosterone and the natural body oils that occur in the body. Other factors can also cause an eruption of acne. Natural cures for acne generally are better suited to mild or medium cases.

The other factors that can influence an acne breakout include stress, genetics and even some lifestyle issues. Acne can have a serious effect on teenagers self esteem. This can be exacerbated by a negative reaction to a prescribed treatment. Choosing natural cures for acne will alleviate these adverse reactions to the harmful chemicals.

Some of these adverse reactions include red and irritated skin or a burning sensation. Teenagers are already quite self-conscious, so a skin condition can really cause them a great deal of added stress.

Problem cases of acne can lead to depression and an overall lack of confidence. It is important that acne be treated on a regular basis. There are many different natural cures for acne that can be used at home.

One of the more popular natural cures for acne methods is tea tree oil. It is extracted from a specific tree located in Australia. It contains a bacteria-fighting substance known as terpenes. The bacteria that causes acne is killed or weakened by the terpenes. The side effects are minimal with this method.

Another popular natural cure for acne is the aloe vera plant. The gel found in the leaves of this plant is very enzyme rich and is very soothing to inflamed skin. It also has anti-bacterial properties, which help clear up your skin.

We are sure that everyone's grandmother has a secret home remedy or his or her own natural cures for acne. One of the more unusual methods is to apply a mixture of real tomato pulp; honey and rose water to your face for twenty minutes, then wash it off.

In conclusion, there are many natural cures for acne. Finding the right one that works for you is a trial and error process. Once you find a good remedy then stick with it on a daily basis.
